Eric's Suggestions

Eric, a friend from work, sent me by email a while ago some bands I may like! He's a bit shy to comment directly (really, Eric?). Here's some parts of his email:

You forgot one major band (but not in a major now), Radiohead. In Rainbows will be perfect to be on the road.

I agree completely. I haven't heard In Rainbow yet, but will do soon! I really enjoyed their 1995 album: The Bends. Also, how can I forget Karma Police?

You forgot also some classical bands:
- Jeff Buckley (maybe his father Tim Buckley, more folk, and why not Donovan to add some "colors"),
- Patti Smith
- The doors,
- Creedence clearwater revival
- Suede (maybe? if you like Belle and Sebastian)
- The clash

I'll be commenting on The Clash for now. They've got a very original and groundbreaking style. In a previous entry, I added a link to the music video of Rock The Casbah from The Clash. I'm not familiar with all their discography, but what I've heard so far, it's brilliant! They have influenced the most innovative bands nowdays. For instance, some of the members of The Clash were asked to collaborate in Gorillaz's Plastic Beach (Damon Albarn's back!). They recently played at the Colbert Report (Comedy Central). You can watch their performance here.

And some new stuff:
- Jamie T,
- Adam Green (of course!),
- The libertines,
- The national (there will do the first part of Pavement in May - 7th- in Zenith, Paris),
- Pavement, and Stephen Malkmus, the leader of the band,
- Beirut
- Low,
- Stuck in the sound (a quite good french rock band),
- Sigur Ros (an icelandic band, you probably heard about them),
- Lumi (an libanese rock electro fusion band, excellent but the album is
probably quite difficult to find. But don't worry, I've got it!),
- Of Montreal (some friends of MGMT, the singer, Kevin Barns, has an amazing voice),
- Dan Black (he will play the next friday in La flèche d'or in Paris),
- The kills,
- The white stripes,
- The fleet foxes (to be folk)
- Kings of Leon (for a part of fun)
- Carbon silicons (the new band of Joe Strummer)
- The XX (if you like the YYY)
- etc

- Fleet Foxes is brilliant. I can listen to Your Protector a thousand times!
- I also like Jamie T, not a big fan but I think he's fun.
- Kings of Leon is very intense which I like.
- The Kills and The White Stripes, I really like some of their songs. I even got Sour Cherry as my ringtone. Sometimes, it's too much rock for me :$
- I know there is a big fuss for The XX. I have to admit that their sound is really sexy. The girl's voice reminds me to Fanfarlo. I like some of their latest singles, though I just don't like it that much (hard to explain).

I need to check closely the other stuff.

Thanks again Eric for those great suggestions!
